Big 5 - Footwear For Fall

Inspired by the shoe-focused prompts every Tuesday of the #BeSeenStyleChallenge, these five footwear styles are perfect for the transitional fall weather. Shoes are an easy way to add a little personality to an outfit but that doesn't mean you have to wear five-inch stilettos or over-the-knee boots (at least not every day).

Shoes can be cute AND functional. They also don't have to cost as much as your kids' latest rec sports registration. This is especially helpful if you're branching out a bit with any of these styles and don't want to invest a lot to add them to your closet.

All of the following styles are less than $40 and have awesome customer ratings!

Booties

Ankle booties are such a perfect transitional shoe - working with everything from dresses and cutoffs to flannels and jeans. Find a pair that matches your skin tone for maximum leg-lengthening impact with bare legs or details like buckles and studs for a bit of edge. Another pro tip - the more ankle you show in the front or on the sides - the longer your leg line will appear.

Sneakers

The athleisure trend was such a gift to moms! Like, "We get it. You want to look cute but be totally comfortable chasing the kids and running all the errands." Having a casual sneaker (not the ones you wear to workout) to pair with leggings and a tunic or even a day dress and denim jacket is will get you through the busiest days. Look for fun color combos, metallic details, and a casual vibe. Again, these are not the sneakers you would hit the gym in!

Loafers

Loafers come in so many variations, there's bound to be a version that matches your style. Some are very menswear-inspired making a fun contrast to a more feminine outfit and some are more refined and sleek, allowing your clothes to make the statement. No matter the exact style, loafers have a slightly "academic" vibe that make them feel just right in the fall.

Mules

The variety of amazing mules at Target this fall is outrageous in the best way! Girly, edgy, creative, bold, neutral, casual - there are so many options. I was really hesitant about mules at first thinking that they'd be hard to keep on as I zoomed through my day (and after the kids), but they are completely comfortable and functional for my mom life. In fact, they feel like slippers you can wear in public.

Flats

Picking out a great pair of flats for fall is all about color and texture. Neutral animal prints like snake or leopard are classics, as well as, rich hues in leather or suede. Red and mustard yellow are popular seasonal pops of color with fall neutrals. Flats can also be the perfect way to introduce some pattern into your look, especially if you typically stick to solids, or pick one that contrasts with your favorite print for a beautiful mix. Embellished flats (e.g. bows, gems, texture) are the answer to fancy family occasions when you want to dress up but you'll also be on mom duty.

These five footwear options represent some awesome options for fall, but will carry you into cooler weather too. With so many styles that are designer dupes, you'll be right on trend for a fraction of the price. Is there a style you don't have in your closet yet that you're considering for this season?

Follow along with the #BeSeenStyleChallenge for a look at how each shoe is worn and styled - look for these posts on Tuesdays during the month of October!
