Early spring is such a great time to capture a few precious moments with the people you love - there's no shortage of fun prop options, the weather and landscape are giving crisp, fresh vibes, and you can make double use of your Easter attire! Or your St. Patrick's day gear, either way.
The blue, green, and khaki palette is perfect for the season and easy to coordinate. A mix of solids and prints works well because of the complimentary colors and scale. As much as I like mixing prints in an individual outfit, for family photo styling I prefer to keep each person's look fairly simple and mix prints or textures across the whole group.
Toddler girl - floral dress // mary jane sneakers
Dad - plaid shirt // khaki pants // sueded sneakers
Mom - scarf // jumpsuit // block heel sandals
Preschool boy - raglan tee // drawstring pants // high tops
School-age boy - print polo // joggers // high tops
I also consider potential pairs or small groups that may be photographed together when styling your family's looks. This ensures the clothing is complimentary and allows the faces you love so much to shine. A "parent" pose and "kids" pose are pretty basic so I would always recommend coordinating details in those looks.
Having professional family photos taken is definitely an investment, but that's why it's worth the effort to make sure your family is styled well. The right pieces of clothing enhance the setting and style of photography to make the most of your experience and the images you'll have forever.
Whether you're local or long-distance, if you'd like some help styling your family for photos this spring please contact me. These looks are all new pieces, but I love working with what a family already has in their closet.
If you've done springtime family photos, what has been your favorite location? A field, park, playground, wooded trail? I'd love to hear what worked well for your family! (Or what you wouldn't repeat!)
