Pockets Full Of Sunshine

...or whatever your child is collecting on today's neighborhood walk!

I recently discovered an emerging pattern in my saved images on Instagram and then turned the page in the April issue of InStyle to see yet another olive skirt! Paper bag waists and utility pockets are current features on a spring staple.

Read on for several ways to wear this versatile skirt style, as well as, how to score this trending piece secondhand!

I happened to have a 3-year-old option from H&M in my closet that I styled three ways. I have very straight hips so the placement of the pockets and paper bag waist help create a little curve. If you're looking for the opposite effect, go for slimmer patch pockets or regular slant pockets at the side seams.

Left: A striped tee, cap toe flats and a cork bag look inspired by a recent J. Crew Factory post on Instagram (see Inspo #1 below). This option would look equally great with a plain or graphic tee, white court sneakers and a denim jacket.

Middle: Mixing pretty pastels with olive is a great option for spring. Add charming jewelry and metallic sandals to dress up the utilitarian skirt.

Right: I couldn't wait to recreate a look Kimberly (Penny Pincher Fashion) recently shared on Instagram (Inspo #2 below). A crisp, white blouse creates a feminine contrast to the olive tie waist skirt. Neutral accessories keep it simple and chic.

Shop the Look Secondhand

This skirt style may be trending, but it's easy to find secondhand if it's not already in your closet. I found the following eight options on thredUP* and most are under $15. (New shoppers can use the provided link for $10 shopping credit!)

Click the corresponding link below the photos for details on each skirt.

As you can see, there are plenty of pre-loved options available. Select details that suit your body best - either from your favorite brand or a label you've always wanted in your wardrobe.

Do you already own a version of this spring staple or will you give it a go this season?

*As a thredUP Ambassador, I am delighted to promote the company's #secondhandfirst mission. I am not compensated for promoting the shared items and all opinions expressed are honest and my own.
